‘Who more than self their country loved’

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

I am the webmaster for a charity called the Bridge of Hope House in Ferndale/Bellingham Washington. I followed some links to your photos on Flicker. I would really like to use some of your photos on our web page. We are a small struggling charity trying hard to build transitional housing for Veterans returning from the military. I believe our web site would have a much greater impact if we could include some photos of homeless vets. Would it be possible for us to use your photos on our web page? Unfortunately, our budget doesn’t allow for paying anyone for photos.

Thank you for your great work. Your web site is phenomenal and greatly inspiring. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Thank you John for your kind words and your most especially your mission/work to build transitional housing for homeless Veterans.

I personally have not-and for me-would not take a photograph of a homeless person directly. My reason for not taking their photo in that moment in time –is that of the entirety/depth/scope/despair/vulnerability/fragility/exposure is so very deep/raw/real. The conditions/events that led them to be without home/family are so devastating/intimate/personal yet the commonality-but were it not for different circumstance/events—their face/identity could be my face, your face of that of my neighbor.

I thought the following excerpt illustrates/enlightens:

Anonymous Joe When you are homeless in this country, you relinquish your humanity. When you have no money, you are no longer human. When you have no job, you cannot afford a home where you can be protected from the predators and those who exploit us. You are a non person. you have NO civil rights and the Bill of Rights no longer applies to you. You are reviled. https://olotliny.wordpress.com/homeless-veterans/

I hope/pray/wish you every success in connecting/supplying/encouraging/inspiring/ministering to any/all who might be without a home, without hope and without support.

God guide you and bless you. Most sincerely, Missy
