I just came home from the funeral for my father in law today. He had served bravely in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He had served our country during a most difficult dark time. My mother in law went to work as did other moms/daughters to help feed their families and keep things afloat as the men went to serve and defend and liberate a people across the sea. We displayed all the items that he gave with pride and love to his grandson when he enlisted into the Navy–his dress blues with his blue jacket manual and “Welcome Home” banner and his picture in his uniform. As we gathered to celebrate his life, many shared how they had served-Marines, Airborne, Army, firemen… WWII, Korea and Viet Nam— like cloth-their service to our country wove them together in strength and pride. I will miss you George.
