Milbloggies for 2006 Announced

Military.com  |  March 01, 2007

Milblogging.com has announced the winners of the 2006 Milbloggie awards.  This is the second year for these awards, which were created to recognize the best among the military blogging community. Voting this year was highlighted by a newly-introduced system that allowed readers to pick their favorite milbloggers.“This year’s new voting system was broken into two phases: a nomination phase and a voting phase,” said J.P. Borda, editor and webmaster of Milblogging.com. “Registered members of Milblogging.com were able to nominate and vote for milblogs in their respective branches — U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, and more, which helped recognize military parents, spouses, and supporters who also blog. A lot of votes were cast. The great effort put forth by the Milblogging.com members really legitimized the process and should make the Milbloggies that much more significant to the awardees.”

The 2006 winners are as follows:

U.S. Army
Acute Politics

U.S. Air Force
Afghanistan Without a Clue

U.S. Navy
Doc in the Box

U.S. Marine Corps
SandGram

U.S. Military (Veteran)
Blackfive – The Paratrooper of Love

U.S. Civilian
Soldiers’ Angels Germany

U.S. Military (Spouse)
Andi

U.S. Military (Parent)
Some Soldier’s Mom

U.S. Military (Supporter)
Fuzzilicious Thinking

“I’m honored to win a 2006 MilBloggie,” said Andi of Andisworld.com, this year’s winner in the Spouse category. “The competition was fierce this year, and I was humbled to find Andi’s World in the company of such fine blogs like SpouseBUZZ .com.”

“The best part of this year’s results is some of the blogs that are being recognized,” said Matt Burden of Blackfive.net, winner in the Veteran category. “Blogs like Acute Politics and Some Soldier’s Mom are not just fun to read. They’re doing important work toward keeping readers informed about issues that matter.”

The Milbloggies will be awarded at  the annual Milblogging Conference’s opening reception on May 4 in Washington, DC.
