The Military Channel Solidifies its Post as a Voice for Troops Starting Feb. 14
— Social Networks, User-Generated Videos and Programming Give Troops an Avenue to Tell Their Story Directly to Viewers —
(Silver Spring, MD) – The Military Channel, the only cable network to go “behind the lines” on military subjects, today announced a focused plan under the leadership of Discovery Communications, Inc.’s new President and CEO David Zaslav that unites partnerships and programming to provide an unfiltered voice for the troops. Utilizing online video technology, the Military Channel is opening its airwaves directly to troops who can submit footage from the frontlines for broadcast. In addition, a social network for the military community is being launched through partnerships with charities and Armed Forces organizations.
The Military Channel is increasing the amount of airtime dedicated to direct-from-the-troops videos and is continuing to increase the amount of programming related to the war in Iraq, which has doubled since last year. As a Valentine’s Day tribute to the troops, the Military Channel will air 24 hours of commercial-free messages from troops stationed overseas to loved ones back home for OPERATION V-DAY. In addition, starting February 15, raw footage and content submitted by servicemembers around the world will be used in VOICES FROM THE FRONT segments which will air hourly on the channel.

VALENTINE’S DAY TRIBUTE – OPERATION V-DAY
For Valentine’s Day, the Military Channel is collaborating with the Department of Defense to air messages from troops stationed in 177 countries around the world. Presenting an opportunity for troops to reach out to loved ones back home, the messages will air from 6 AM (ET) on February 14 until 6 AM (ET) on February 15, commercial-free. The tribute is part of the Military Channel’s partnership with America Supports You, a Department of Defense program connecting America’s support for the troops to military servicemembers and their families.
